Compay Segundo, originally Francisco Repilado Munoz (1907-2003) was a singer, songwriter and musician from Siboney, Cuba. His stage name derives from the fact that he was always second voice in his musical partnerships. He was also the invertor of armonico (7stringed guitar-like instrument). Compay Segundo was playing the guitar, the clarinet, the bongos, and the tres. He was member of Los Compadres, a duo he formed with Lorenzo Hierrezuelo in 1942. However international fame came in 1997 with the release of Buena Vista Social Club album, a hugely succesful recording which won several Grammy's. Segundo perfomed with many legendary acts, including Cuban Stars, Cuarteto Hatuey and Conjunto Matamoros. After his death, a group created by his son Basilio and the remaining members of his band, Grupo Compay Segundo.
