Tindersticks are an indie rock, champer pop band from Nottingham, formed in 1991. The present members of the band are Stuart Staples (vocal, guitar, melodica), David Boulter (keyboards, percussion), Neil Fraser (guitar, vibraphone), Earl Harvin (drums) and Dan McKinna (bass guitar, keys, vocals). Staples and Boulter were members of Asphalt Ribbons (formed in1987) and in 1991 with Fraser, Hinchliffe (violin, guitar), Macaulay (drums) and Colwill (bass) started playing in gigs and recording. Then they changed their name to Tindersticks after Staples discovered a box of matches on a Greek beach. The band also produces soundtracks for films and tv series. Their sound characterised of orchestral backing lounge jazz and soul, the baritone lead voice of Staples and their instrumentations with Rhodes piano, violin, glockenspiel, vibraphone, trumbet, hammond organ and more organs that are not normally used for rock bands.
