Wasis Diop is a musician from Senegal. He was born in 1950 in Dakar and he's known for blending traditional Senegalese folk music with elements of modern pop and jazz. Diop left Senegale in 1970 to study engineering in Paris but once there turn to music. He joined the band West African Cosmos and in 1979 he started his solo career. Diop has collaborated with singer Marie-France Anglade, jazz saxophonist Yasuaki Shimizu and singer Serah. Over the years Wasis Diop has come to write an increasing amount of movie and TV scores for television, including many documentaries for Japanese, Brazilian, French and African productions.
