Lee Scratch Perry (Rainford Hugh Perry) is a reggae producer, musician and singer. He was born in 1936 in Kendal, Jamaica. Perry is one of the pioneers in development of dub and reggae music and also noted for his innovative studio techniques, remixing and effects. He started his career as a record seller in the late 1950s. Scratch has worked with artists such as Bob Marley and The Wailers, Junior Marvin, The Congos, The Heptones and Max Romeo. In 1973 he built a studio in his back yard The Black Ark. In early 80's he spent time in England and USA, performing live and recording. Perry's debut album 'Africa's Blood' was released in 1971.
